Natasha talks about ISPCAN convention: I was recently at the (The 14th International Congress On Child Abuse And Neglect) (http://kempe.org/ISPCAN/ISPCANhome.htm). ISPCAN is, The International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. They are the only international organization that brings together a worldwide range of people to work toward the prevention of child abuse, neglect and child exploitation. They foster an exchange of knowledge among professionals who work in the medical field; legal and welfare services; education, therapeutic or NGOs; individuals in research and academic circles; sociology; clergy and many others. I was honored by the French Organization IID (http://www.innocenceendanger.org/innocence/index.html) with a sponsorship for the Convention. I want to thank Homayra, Choy, and Francesca, for sponsoring me to the convention, and Ron, for flight and hotel expenses. I encourage you to check out ISPCANs website and IIDs. I was amazed at the countries represented at the Congress, I would estimate there were around 90 represented, all dealing with the issues of children and their well-being. We heard first hand from representatives about child abuse and neglect in each country. I have to admit; I thought I had seen and or dealt with a lot of images of abuse, but the imagery they drummed up with their descriptions of what is going on in each country, was heart breaking. Everything from shaken baby syndrome, child warriors (fighting adult wars), sexual abuse, starvation, female mutilation of children, they just kept talking about the sad state these poor children are in. The representatives also had one thing in common, frustration at the situation in each country; from lack of funds, lack of resources, to corrupt governments. A frustration we at ACPO understand all too well. At the Denver Convention, ACPO was unique in one respect; we were only one of probably three organizations or agencies dealing with Child Pornography on the Internet. I did meet some people from Canada, both retired RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). They happened to be affiliated with one of our Board members. I spent several hours showing them our tools, and explaining what ACPO has worked on for over four years. They were quite impressed by, our technology and what our programmers have come up with. ACPO has several unique tools to assist LE (Law Enforcement) in ferreting out child pornography, and refining that information, tools that can locate where the evidence (CP) resides. At this time ACPO is not at liberty to divulge any additional information about LE tools. ACPO will and provide information to authorized and authenticated law enforcement agents. ACPO has tools to assist ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in keeping their servers free of child porn. After ACPO finishes their current projects (tools) we would like to turn them over to the proper Law Enforcement Agencies, and start working on software for parents and children. ACPOs first goal is to eradicate child porn from the Internet, and stop this blatant attack on our children. We have found that we not only need to work at freeing the world of child pornography, but we need to redirect our focus on protecting our children. We need to educate the world that child pornography exists, educate parents how to protect their children on the Internet, and assist in educating LE when possible. All this can be done with software. ACPOs goal is to provide free software to LE, parents and children (non violent games). ACPO is a non profit organization comprised of volunteers. We have no funding much to everyones surprise, probably because we havent looked for any. Our Webmaster is a volunteer, our site is hosted by a volunteer, our servers were donated, our computer equipment donated, or paid for by people, within the organization. For the past four years ACPO has existed thanks to a lot of hard work by our volunteers, In particular I am referring to our coders, programmers. They have worked unselfishly on these programs, on their own time, and at times have had to turn their projects over to another person because of personal situations. Most of these people have never met only via email and instant communication devices. I am proud of what they have done in the name of love for our children. However ACPO has reached a point that we can proceed no further with out assistance. LE is ready for our tools, but our tools need the finishing touches of a professional coder/programmers or agency. This is a call for help, for approximately $70,000 to $100,000 US we can hire a full time programmer for a year and the necessary staff to finish these projects. We have several people in mind, people we know and trust. If you have any suggestions, an offer of help, now is the time to speak out. We need the public to be aware of this situation, thats why this is being posted publicly. You fund raisers out there, knock on doors, talk to your church leaders, make a loud noise. If we dont speak out now, it could be too late. We are loosing the battle, lets dont loose the war. Thank you Natasha Grigori |
